Underwriting Information: Marine

United Underwrites the following types of marine coverage:

Cargo Insurance

Provides Cargo Cover while in transit, domestic or international, from point of origin to final destination by means of:

  • Ocean Vessel - general cargo, container vessel, break bulk, Ro/Ro, tankers
  • Barge - river, coastal and ocean going barges
  • Aircraft - commercial, non passenger carrying aircrafts
  • Truck and Rail in conjunction with one of the above - cargo that arrives at a port or airport requiring over land transportation to reach final destination.

Commercial Hull Insurance

Provides Physical damage coverage for hull, machinery and any other equipment or apparatus that is part of the vessel:

  • Ocean going vessels (Blue Water) - general cargo and container vessels, tankers, break bulk, Ro/Ro
  • Tugs and Barges - coastal and river (Brown Water) barge operations
  • Passenger vessels, Cruise ships - coastal and ocean going passenger carrying vessels
  • Builder's Risk - the construction of new vessels

Marine Liabilities

Insurance coverage for liability losses from the Assured's marine operations:

  • Charterer's Liability - Protects the legal and contractual liability of the Charterer against loss, damage or expense including demurrage, removal of wreck and collision liability of the chartered vessel.
  • Wharfinger's Liability - Provides protection to owners and lessees of berthing space against liability for damage to vessels docked at their piers, landings and or wharves.
  • Stevedores Liability - A form of bailee coverage protecting Stevedores for damage to vessels and or their cargo during loading and unloading operations.
  • Terminal Operator's Liability - liability for damages / losses arising from the care, custody and control of property by a terminal operator
  • Ship Repairer's Liability - Provides insurance protection to a shipyard for damage to vessels resulting from services provided while in its care.
  • Protection and Indemnity - Liability protection for a vessel owner against third parties for damages / losses including personal injury and loss of life.
  • Excess Marine Liability - coverage for above the primary liability.

War Risk

  • Covers against risks of capture, seizure destruction and damage by men-of-war, piracy, takings at sea, arrests, restraints, detainments and other warlike operations, etc.
  • It's important to note that Cargo War Risk Insurance covers property only while on board a waterborne conveyance.
